KEY #8 DRINKING CALORIES

Soda, sweet tea, fruit juices, alcohol, sports and coffee drinks taste great!  But they are not a part of a healthy person’s daily food plan. They will not get you to your weight loss and fitness goals because they are packed with sugar, carbohydrates, and calories. Many of these drinks contribute to dehydration. In large part, they are devoid of any nutritional value.

If you can go without them completely then do it.  Your body will thank you. If you need an occasional indulgence then make it truly occasional (special events, date night with spouse.  A couple glasses of wine several nights a week or starting each day with a café mocha (even if it’s "light") are not occasional events.   If you are drinking too many empty calories you will want to evaluate these patterns and find ways to satisfy your needs in ways that truly support your goals.

Water, mineral water, herbal tea, coconut milk, and almond milk are great choices for hydration. If you are kicking the soda habit then a glass of sparkling water with a squeeze of lime or lemon is delicious and satisfying. An organic cup of coffee is fine without too much added sugar. You can make this simple yet powerful change!
